One of the ways Mr. Burt and I have gone green is in becoming a one-car family. Now, I have to admit, it wasn’t out of the eco-kindness of our hearts that we made this decision. Unless eco stands for economics. We sold my car because I only drove it once a week and we could use the money to pay off Mr. Burt’s car. But since then I’ve started shopping with cloth bags, and in retrospect, we saved a little bit of the earth by selling my car.
I keep four of my five shopping bags in the trunk of the Honda at all times so I won’t forget them when I go shopping. I’d keep all five of them in the Honda, but that doesn’t do me any good when Mr. Burt’s at work and I need to walk over to the Albertson’s around the block because I forgot something at Wal Mart on my Saturday grocery run. So, I keep one bag hanging on a shelf in the garage, where I can easily grab it for both those emergency shopping trips and the Saturday Wal Mart run, when I need it along with the other four to hold all my groceries.
Today I drove Mr. Burt to work so I could have the car for an unscheduled Friday Wal Mart run. In the rush to get myself showered and dressed and out the door, I completely forgot to grab my fifth cloth bag off the garage shelf. Almost all my groceries fit into the other four, but I had to have one plastic sack for the rest. Guilt settles in the pit of my stomach like too much oatmeal. I’ll hang onto that bag and recycle it at Wal Mart next week.
Ironically, today I also launched a new blog with my friend Ariana to promote eco-friendly lifestyle changes. So if living a little more green interests you, come on over and read about the steps we’re taking to color our lives green. Don’t be daunted — we’re talking baby steps.

Every time I see this blog’s title, I can’t help but think of Gob and Franklin.

But surely you know that “It’s Not Easy Being Green” was a Kermit the Frog song long before Gob and Franklin?

Of course, of course, both occurred to me.

Good. I had this sudden fear that you might have been too young to know that song!

oh, to be green—I don’t think this will ever be me. I look forward to all your posts here and there!
