Some Bolivian prostitutes are on a hunger strike because the brothels and bars where they are employed have been shut down to curb crime and underage drinking. I really do feel awfully that their financial situations are such that they have been driven to this to support their families, but my sympathy for the human condition does not stop me appreciating good irony wherever it may be found:
“Tomorrow we will bury ourselves alive if we are not immediately heard. The mayor will have his conscience to answer to if there are any grave consequences,” Lily Cortez, leader of the El Alto Association of Nighttime Workers, told local television.
Also: they have a union?
